The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by President Christa Jones. The March 19, 2007 minutes were approved as distributed. The following items of business were discussed: There was general agreement that board members need to know more about the way foundation funds are invested and how better to read and interpret investment reports we receive. Jim reported that Fifth Third Bank (the bank that has the foundation checking account) provides investment services for non-profit organizations like ours. They charge 1 to 1.5 percent to handle such accounts and can file 990 reports which we will need to do. AG Edwards is our current investment firm and Jim will inquire about their current investment services. Cris talked about tree sales opportunities in addition to Woody Warehouse Nursery opportunities currently being used by some Districts. Jennifer talked about a variety of opportunities at the January Association Meeting at which fund raising and the Foundation will be discussed. There will be a break-out session for attendees to help make them more aware of the Foundation and how it can be used to further their District’s mission. Also, at the kickoff luncheon the Foundation Board plans to give a $1000 award to the District that has been most successful in “growing” their foundation endowment. Don distributed information discussing why individuals and businesses give to foundations and presented some ideas for promoting the foundation. The board discussed the possibility of identifying a source of funding that would match other contributions to a District’s foundation account. Christa encouraged board members to attend one of their local District’s meetings and encourage them to use the foundation. The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 noon.
